Boiler Upgrade Scheme 2026: what is available?
Clear, independent-minded guidance

Written for UK homeowners and checked against official or established independent sources where applicable. It is general information, not a substitute for a property assessment.

Homeowners often see grant figures in adverts without the conditions beside them. As checked on 11 October 2026, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) has different amounts for different eligible heating technologies.

Current headline values

GOV.UK lists £7,500 towards an eligible air-to-water heat pump and £7,500 towards a ground-source heat pump. It also lists £2,500 for an eligible air-to-air heat pump. Grant conditions apply.

Extra help for some off-gas-grid homes

Until March 2027, the guidance describes a further £1,500 towards eligible air-source or ground-source systems where the property is heated by oil or LPG and has no mains gas connection. Eligibility must be confirmed.

Where the scheme applies

BUS is for England and Wales. Funding and support arrangements are different in Scotland and Northern Ireland, so a UK-wide business must not advertise one grant as nationwide.

Who applies?

An eligible MCS-certified installer applies on the customer’s behalf, and the grant is reflected in the quotation or invoice. Always check the property, technology and installer against the current rules.

Do not promise savings or entitlement

The existence of a scheme does not mean every property qualifies, and it does not by itself determine whether heating bills will fall. Compare total installation cost and expected running costs carefully.

Reliable information

These are general UK homeowner considerations, not a quote, technical design or funding decision. For current rules, see the official or independent guidance for this topic. The right answer depends on your property and the latest scheme conditions.
