Planning an air-source heat pump for a Blackburn home
Blackburn households can explore air-source heat pumps, solar PV and battery storage as separate upgrades or as part of a longer-term home-energy plan. Each option needs its own suitability checks.
Begin with the building
For heating, the starting point is a room-by-room heat-loss calculation and a review of existing emitters. For solar, roof direction, usable area, shading and daytime electricity demand shape the likely design.
Design the whole system
Combining technologies does not mean installing everything at once. A staged plan can consider electrical capacity, future EV charging, battery location and how heating demand may change after fabric improvements.
BUS is open to eligible properties in England and Wales. Current guidance provides £7,500 towards eligible air-to-water and ground-source heat pumps, with a temporary £9,000 category for certain eligible off-gas-grid installations until 31 March 2027. The eligible MCS-certified installer applies and the grant is deducted from the installation price. Eligibility is not guaranteed. Check current Ofgem guidance.
